Marangu Route – “Coca-Cola Route”
Known as the “Coca-Cola Route”, the Marangu Route is the oldest and most established path to the summit of Mount Kilimanjaro. It is the only route with hut accommodations, making it popular for climbers seeking a less rugged trekking experience. While it’s considered the easiest in terms of terrain, the rapid ascent can challenge acclimatization.

Itinerary Overview (6-Day Version Recommended)
Day 1: Marangu Gate (1,860m) to Mandara Hut (2,700m)
Hike through lush rainforest with possible sightings of blue monkeys.
🏠 Overnight at Mandara Hut.
Day 2: Mandara Hut to Horombo Hut (3,720m)
Climb into moorland terrain with views of Mawenzi.
🏠 Overnight at Horombo Hut.
Day 3: Acclimatization Day at Horombo Hut
Optional hike to Zebra Rocks (4,000m) for acclimatization.

Day 4: Horombo Hut to Kibo Hut (4,700m)
Trek through alpine desert toward Kibo peak base camp. Early rest for summit night.

Day 5: Summit Attempt – Kibo to Uhuru Peak (5,895m), then down to Horombo Hut
Start at midnight to reach Uhuru Peak at sunrise. After celebrations, descend to Horombo Hut.

Day 6: Horombo Hut to Marangu Gate
Final descent through forest to Marangu Gate. Receive your summit certificate and transfer to Moshi or Arusha.
End of climb.
