Day-by-Day Trek Itinerary
Londorossi Gate to Mti Mkubwa Camp (2,820m)
Begin through lush rainforest with possible sightings of monkeys and exotic birds. Overnight at Mti Mkubwa (Big Tree Camp).
Mti Mkubwa to Shira 1 Camp (3,610m)
Ascend onto the Shira Ridge and traverse into the heath zone. Overnight at Shira 1 Camp.
Shira 1 to Shira 2 Camp (3,850m)
Gentle trek across Shira Plateau with spectacular vistas of Kibo. Overnight at Shira 2 Camp.
Shira 2 to Moir Hut (4,200m)
Trek toward Lava Tower, then branch north to isolated Moir Hut under the Lent Hills. Overnight at Moir Hut.
Moir Hut to Buffalo Camp (4,020m)
Traverse the untouched northern slopes with vistas stretching into Kenya. Overnight at Buffalo Camp.
Buffalo Camp to Third Cave Camp (3,870m)
Gentle undulating hike through alpine desert across the northern ridges. Overnight at Third Cave Camp.
Third Cave to School Hut (4,800m)
Climb to School Hut beneath the Kibo crater; prepare for the summit push. Overnight at School Hut.
Summit Day – School Hut to Uhuru Peak (5,895m), then descend to Mweka Camp
Midnight summit assault via Hans Meyer Cave to Uhuru Peak for sunrise. Descend to Mweka (3,100m). Overnight at Mweka Camp.
Mweka Camp to Mweka Gate (1,640m)
Walk through the lush rainforest to Mweka Gate to receive certificates.
