Day by Day
The Itinerary
Fly from Arusha or Dar es Salaam to Katavi. Meet your guide and begin afternoon game drive.
Overnight in Katavi (Tented Camp or Lodge).
Explore the Katuma River floodplains tracking massive pods of hippos, Nile crocodiles, giant herds of buffalo, and lions.
Second full day exploring remote corners of Katavi National Park with morning and afternoon game drives or walking safaris.
Morning flight from Katavi airstrip to Mahale. Transfer by speedboat across Lake Tanganyika to your luxury forest eco-lodge.
Guided rainforest trek in Mahale Mountains to find habituated chimpanzees. Spend 1 hour observing chimp family dynamics and grooming.
Second chimp trekking session or spend the afternoon kayaking, swimming, or fishing on Lake Tanganyika.
Final primate trek in Mahale forest or relax on white-sand lake beaches.
